Mission Statement:

The philosophy of Texas Vocational Schools is to prepare students to find gainful employment wherever they might choose to live. Our aim is to give interested individuals the best training possible to enable them to obtain meaningful employment, which gives them self-satisfaction and a special place in society.

Our purpose is to train the individual through a modern curriculum that meets the challenges presented by the needs of the community/our service delivery area.  The sole business of the school is to supply the students’ wants and needs and to meet the educational requirements of the working world.

BUSINESS CURRICULUM:

Accounting/Office Assistant:

The Accounting/Office Assistant program will provide the student with the ideal preparation for the profession where one aspires to an office management position requiring heavy word processing duties and administrative responsibilities. This comprehensive course also provides thorough preparation for the accounting skills required in today’s busy office.

Total hours: 1,080

Estimated Completion Time: 10 ½ months - 6 hours per day, 15 ½ months - 4 hours per day.

Office Assistant:

This program will prepare you to work in a small office, which requires proficiency in word processing skills. In today’s automated offices, secretaries are increasingly assuming more responsibilities, including word processing tasks.  This program is designed to give you skills such as typing, machine transcription, word processing, and a command of spelling, grammar, and punctuation, which are necessary for todays highly automated offices.

Total hours: 720

Estimated Completion Time: 7 months - 6 hours per day, 10 ½ months - 4 hours per Day.

Legal Office Specialist:

This program will prepare the student to work in a legal office that requires proficiency in word processing and knowledge of legal office procedures, as well as legal machine transcription. Legal Office Specialist perform many administrative duties, such as answering the phone, greeting clients, recording and filing clients’ legal records, filling out forms, handling correspondence and scheduling appointments.  They may use word processors and/or personal computers to handle bookkeeping and billing. The Legal Office Specialist program is designed to train you in the above skills and to prepare you for the position of legal secretary with word processing abilities.

Total hours: 720

Estimated Completion Time: 7 months - 6 hours per Day, 10 ½ months - 4 hours per Day.

Medical Office Specialist:

This program will prepare you to work in a medical office that requires proficiency in word processing and knowledge of medical office procedures, as well as medical machine transcription.  Medical Office Specialist perform many administrative duties, such as answering the phone, greeting patients, recording and filing patients’ medical records, filing out insurance forms, handling correspondence, and scheduling appointments, and arranging for hospital admission and lab services. The program is designed to train you in the above skills and to prepare you for the position of Medical Office Specialist.

Total hours: 720

Estimated Completion Time: 7 months - 6 hours per Day, 10 ½ months - 4 hours per Day.

WELDING CURRICULUM:

Certification: Students are trained to the A.W.S. and A.S.M.E. Certified Codes, as recognized by the American Welding Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, which is standard and accepted from coast to coast.  Near completion of the course, the student is tested according to these certification codes.

Advanced Combination Welding:

This program will prepare you for entry-level employment as a combination arc and combination heliarc welder/fitter. Your program will emphasize oxy-acetylene cutting and welding, uphill plate and structural welding, refinery and industrial uphill pipe welding, downhill pipeline welding, heliarc/TIG welding on carbon steel, plate and pipe, and basic pipe layout and fitting fabrications. This program is designated for the beginning welder who wants to become a combination arc/heliarc TIG welder/fitter.  The extended scope of the program gives the student some degree of independence and more flexibility on the job as a welder. This is our most complete program and will prepare you to take advantage of each advancement opportunity as it comes along.
